Dating back to the ancient Egyptians, basil was used over 4,000 years ago for embalming during the mummification process. Throughout the centuries it was been used s an antidote for snake bites and was thought to bring strength to those doing religious fasts. A member of the mint family, basil is closely related to other common aromatic plants such as peppermint, rosemary, and lavender, all having square stems. Basil essential oil carries a crisp scent that uplifts the energy while being both calming & energizing.
