Camphor
Honored for many centuries in Asia and India, the camphor tree was used for many centuries as incense and as medicine. During the Black Death of the 14th century, camphor wood was burned as a fumigant in order to cleanse the space of those that were sick or had died. Although camphor is a close relative of cinnamon it is unsafe for consumption. In fact, white camphor is the only variety safe for use.
Camphor has a menthol-like smell and is a powerful ally when dealing with congestion or pain. It also has a strong calming effect and promotes sleep to some.
