Peppermint
In Greek mythology, Hades, the god of the underworld, was in love with a nymph named Minthe. Persephone, the wife of Hades, was very jealous and turned Minthe into a plant. Hades was so sad, he gave Minthe a lovely smell so no one will ever forget her.
Back in the 1200s, mint was used by the people of Iceland to whiten teeth. As you may know, it is still used in many toothpastes. Roman naval commander, Pliny the Elder, recommended a crown of mint be worn to stimulate the body and mind. It has also been planted around homes to repel mice and other pests.
