Turmeric
Turmeric has become very well known in the past few years for its impact on pain & chronic inflammation. Four thousand years ago it was also popular and even considered sacred. Mentioned in the Vedic texts over 4000 years ago, it was used for food and medicine just like it is today.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda, turmeric was used for treating skin & joint disorders as infections of the respiratory and digestive tracts. It also symbolized fertility and property, being associated with the sun.
Studies have shown turmeric to be effective at treating a large of number ailments including arthritis, HIV/AIDS, herpes, IBS, acne, UTIs, anemia, edema, poor circulation, and back pain. In order to maximize the anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric, black pepper is often consumed at the same time.
