Wintergreen
Wintergreen has a strong mint-like flavor but is not a member of the mint family at all. In fact, wintergreen is an Ericaceae, making it closely related to blueberries and cranberries. Both the flowers and leaves of wintergreen are edible, but not very tasty. However, Native cultures brewed wintergreen into a tea to alleviate pain accompanying arthritis, heartache, and sore throat.
Wintergreen essential oil should not be diffused in closed spaces around pets. The menthyl content is considered toxic to pets, especially cats.
